OSMOND GEORGE GORDON WAS BORN ON AUGUST 14,1939 TO SILBERT AND
MYRTLE GORDON IN RETREAT, ST. MARY, JAMAICA, WEST INDIES. HE WAS THE
FIRST OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HE WAS POPULAR AMONG A BROAD SPECTRUM OF
STUDENTS AND ADULTS AND A ROLE MODEL IN THE DISTRICT. FRIENDS
CALLED HIM O.G AND HIS LITTLE SIBLINGS CALLED HIM BROTHER OSMOND. AT
AN EARLY AGE HIS TEACHERS IN RETREAT PRIMARY SCHOOL WERE
IMPACTED BY HIS BRILLIANT MIND AND TREATED HIM AS A GIFTED CHILD WHO
WAS PROUDLY SUPPORTED BY HIS PARENTS AND THE REST OF HIS FAMILY. As
A PREFECT, HIS EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS WERE FREQUENTLY
MENTIONED OVER THE INTERCOM BY THE PRINCIPAL OF THE
SCHOOL, COMMENDING HIM AS SOMEONE FOR OTHER STUDENTS TO
HE WAS RESPECTFUL, SERVED AS A SCHOOL MONITOR, AND WAS
SUCCESSFUL IN ALL THE EXAMINATIONS THE SCHOOL OFFERED. AT THE AGE
OF SIXTEEN HE WENT TO EXCELSIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN KINGSTON, JAMAICA
WHERE HE SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVED BOTH ORDINARY AND ADVANCE LEVEL
EXAMS IN THE GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION IN SPITE OF LIFE
THREATENING INJURES SUSTAINED FROM A CAR ACCIDENT. OUR FAMILY
ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO HIS FREQUENT VISITS WHETHER IT WAS FOR A
WEEKEND, SUMMER, OR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS. AFTER GRADUATION HE
WORKED AT JAMAICAN IMMIGRATION, THEN TRANSITIONED TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS FOR MANY YEARS DURING WHICH TIME HE GOT
MARRIED TO VERENA BLAKE. THIS MARRIAGE PRODUCED THREE
CHILDREN.OSMOND WAS LATER GIVEN A SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY TO
STUDY IN ENGLAND AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH HAMPTON WHERE HE
OBTAINED HIS MASTER’S DEGREE IN SOCIAL STATISTICS.
WHEN HE RETURNED TO JAMAICA HE WORKED AS HEAD STATISTICIAN AT
JAMAICA DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS AND THEN MOVED ON TO A CHIEF
STATISTICIAN POSITION AT CARICOM, AN OFFICIAL
INTERGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION OF UNITED NATIONS.OSMOND
SERVED AS SECRETARIAT OUT OF THE HEADQUARTERS IN GEORGETOWN,
GUYANA.HE RETIRED IN 2004.HE SPENT MOST OF HIS RETIREMENT
YEARS IN HIS CHILDHOOD HOME IN RETREAT WHERE HE ENJOYED SERVING
THE LORD AND FREQUENTLY MENTORING YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN
WHO WERE SEEKING INFORMATION TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES. IN 2019, HE
MIGRATED TO HIS SON HOWARD IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AS
A PERMANENT RESIDENT, HOWEVER, HIS SIGHT AND HEALTH WERE FAILING
AT THAT TIME.
OSMOND LEAVES BEHIND HIS CHILDREN HOWARD, RICHARD, MICHAEL, AND
SUESHELL;5 GRANDCHILDREN: CHRISTOPHER, AUDRIC, RONEIL, KAYLA, AND
ABIGAIL; 3 BROTHERS: RUDYARD, BARRINGTON, AND COLLIN; AND 4
SISTERS: STEPHANIE, WINSOME, CLAUDETTE, AND BEVERLY; NIECES AND
NEPHEWS.FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
DAD, YOU LIVED A LONG LIFE FILLED WITH ACCOMPLISHMENTS.WE WILL MISS
YOU.REST IN PEACE.

Osmond (OG )my brother you left us a few weeks ago it was tough but I can here your voice saying Tony G. you got to move on and get ready for the next chapter , you were a big influence on my life. OG you always say to me on the phone say together I will always remember those words ,sleep on my brother blessing miss you.
Uncle Osmond you’ve touched so many lives by your selfless and countless acts of kindness, always giving and never expecting any favours in return. Your dedication to a cause was what set you apart. For every institution you worked for, you laid the path for others to succeed.
Uncle Osmond, you were and will always be an inspiration to myself, the entire family and anyone who worked with you. You have left a void in the family that will never be filled. I will always remember you sleep in peace.
Uncle Osmond you were a brilliant mind. You will truly be missed. Rest in Paradise my dear Uncle. Gone but not forgotten.
