Elizabeth Bostick Mackey, affectionately known as “Bett” was born in Savannah, Georgia on September 5th, 1941. Bett was the second daughter born of four children to the Late Edmond and the Late Maybell Wright Bostick.
Her older sister the Late Catherine Bostick Mackey preceded her in death. She was married to the Late Henry Mackey.
She was educated in the Miami Dade County Public School System and a proud graduate of the Miami Northwestern Sr High, Class of 1959.
She began her Christian walk during her young adult life at Antioch Baptist of Brownsville whereas the Lord blessed her with a spirit of discernment.
After graduating high school, she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland to live with her Aunt AgnesBostick.
She later returned to Miami and was employed at Jackson Memorial Hospital as a Nurse Aide. In 1964 she was one of First Blacks to attend and graduate from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Radiology. She furthered her education in Radiology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon completion of her training in Minnesota, she returned to Jackson Hospital and began working as an X-Ray Technician.
Shortly thereafter, she joined The Historic St. Agnes Episcopal Church Overtown and continued her Christian journey. Bett was very active within the various ministries of the Church to include the Finance Committee and the Prayer Circle Ministry visiting the Sick & Shut In. Bett was ordained as an Evangelist and selected as a “Daughter of the King.”
Bett’s longtime commitment, dedication and expertise as a Radiology Tech, along with her charismatic personality allowed her to gain the admiration and respect of all of her peers. After twenty plus years as a X-ray Tech, she was promoted to Supervisor of the Radiology in the Emergency Room. She ran that Department until her retirement in 1994.
Upon retirement, she became a Caregiver for her Mother for many years prior to her passing. She maintained her faith by praying diligently each and every day, reading scriptures and singing her hymns until her health began to fail.
On December 14th, 2021, Bett heard the voice of the Lord say, “Come unto me, and I will give you rest, thy weary one.”
She leaves to cherish her memories: Her Loving and Caring Sister – Cecelia Bostick Richardson; Her brother John Bostick; Three Nephews: Jeffrey Bostick (Shelbra), Calvin Richardson, Darius Bostick (Camille); Three nieces: Twyla Bostick Davis (David), Deidre Bostick, Dondrea Bostick and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowful family and friends.

Im so sorry for your loss .
Cecelia so sorry to hear about the passing of your sister Elizabeth. She always had a smile, kind words and a cute laugh. We will miss our back pew friend but be assured Elizabeth is now safely in the arms of Her Maker having no more sickness but eternal peace. Eternal rest grant to Elizabeth O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
Deepest Sympathies Cecelia to you and your Family during this difficult time. Praying God gives you peace, comfort, understanding and strength during this your time of bereavement. Grieve with the hope that your sister Elizabeth is now with Her Father in Heaven with no more sickness and you did all you could while she was here. God’s Blessings always on you.
