Charlene Lewis Smith
Forever In Our Hearts
Charlene Lewis-Smith was born on August 18,1951 to Matthew Lewis Jr.and the late Helen Lewis
in Cecil Township, Pennsylvania.A few years after the untimely death of her mother Helen when
Charlene was only five years old,the family relocated to Baltimore,Md where she was raised by her
dad and her mom the late Lucille Lewis.
Charlene attended Baltimore City Public Schools for elementary/junior high school years. In 1965
the family moved to Washington,DC where she graduated from Ballou Senior High School in 1969.
Charlene was employed by Prince George’s County Public School Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten
programs for over 20 years. She retired from the school system in 2019.
Charlene was a very quiet and private person. She truly enjoyed her “me” time. She would spend her
days watching westerns, sci-fi and D-list movies on tv and playing pixel art on her iphone. For the
last two years of her life she lived with her children. Charlene would shimmy her shoulders and kick
up her feet and say, “I have all three of my children with me under one roof again, just like old times”.
She would close her eyes, laugh and clap her hands. She was so happy and at peace.
Suddenly on Saturday,March 19,2022,her Lord and Savior called her home for eternal rest.Charlene
was preceded in death by her mother Helen, mom Lucille, brothers Wade (Tim) Timmerson, Billy

I will miss you Aunt Charlene, from your smile, to your laugh, to the jokes you always made.
Love always,
Eboni
Although we were aunt and niece we will always be sisters-in-heart. I’ll never forget the summers we spent out in the country, when Mommy would say “You girls wanna make some fudge?” and we’d jump up and run in the house. Fond memories for sure! Love you dearly and miss you much. Love always, Debbie ❤
Wow! I still can’t believe that it has been over a month since you started you new journey and a higher experience in the spirit. Your are truly missed and loved Char!!! As a kid you were the one always looking out and guiding me, taking me to see the R&B group Intruders. At that time the song “I’ll Always Love My Mama” had not been produced and now when I hear it, I will always think of you and moms. Thank you God for allowing me to have the special moments with my sister. Thank you Charlene Lewis Smith for teaching me how to cook Maryland blue crabs and that special Char’s crab sauce. I love you sis and it is not good bye but until I see you again.
FYI… The last reply as WP Funeral Home is Kevin Lewis reply to his sister.
Our friendship was brief. Our young teenage years from your time on Hilton St. and mine on Bernice Ave. still had lasting memories. As we age and venture out to make our own mark on the world. It was so many years since I last saw you. Gralen and I discussed getting you to attend one of our yearly affairs, but you were not interested. I’m just sorry that I never got the chance to say hello, (instead of
goodbye). Rest peacefully dear friend and if God is willing. I will one day get to say hello.
Happy heavenly birthday sis, I TRULY MISS YOU!!!
